Faculty Bios
Joseph Bertino, PhD, HEC-C serves as South Region director for Wellstar Health System in Atlanta, Georgia. He previously directed clinical ethics for UPMC Presbyterian, UPMC Shadyside, and UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital, where he helped establish and grow a functional ethics consultation service.
Dr. Bertino earned his PhD in bioethics, with a focus on clinical ethics consultation and ethics education. He has advised healthcare systems on policy development, ethics education, and the management of complex cases. He has also taught clinical ethics, moral theory, and Catholic bioethics at Georgia State University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Bertino is the author of Clinical Ethics for Consultation Practice (Springer, 2021), which examines ethics consultation education and the use of consultation skills in clinical practice. He has published in peer-reviewed bioethics journals and is an active member of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, American College of Physicians, and Health Care Compliance Association.
Greg Dober, MA has instructed in healthcare ethics at various academic institutions and hospitals. His work in healthcare ethics and the incarcerated individual has been published and cited in various journals, law reviews, and media.
Greg is a co-author of Against Their Will: The Secret History of Medical Experimentation on Children In Cold War America published by Palgrave-McMillan in 2013 and revised and published in 2021 by Sunbury Press. In addition, he is an executive producer of the short film, Willowbrook, a medical research short drama, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival and won best short film at the Boston Film Festival in 2012.
Greg received a Master of Arts in Bioethics and Health Policy from Loyola University – Chicago and a Master of Arts in Health Care Ethics from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. In addition, he is a member of the American Society of Bioethics and Humanity, the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, the Medical Alliance for Justice, and Scopes and Shields.
Libby Moore, PhD is the Director of Federated Guardians. She received an MSW from West Virginia University and a DHCE from Duquesne University. She is a National Certified Guardian. She was the palliative care coordinator and ethicist for the Heritage Valley Health System and is currently one of the faculty for “POLST: Doing It Right!” and the “Death and Dying Fellowship” sponsored by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation.
A. Michael Gianantonio, Esq. is the owner of AMG Law, LLC a medical malpractice and personal injury law firm in Pittsburgh.
Mike has taught expert evidence at the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science & Law and trial advocacy at Duquesne University School of Law. He also served as Pitt Law School’s Director of Trial Advocacy where he oversaw the development of law students into trial lawyers. Over the last two decades that Mike has been involved in teaching, his trial teams have won several national championships. Mike is an elected member of Allegheny County Academy of Trial Lawyers, which comprises the best trial attorneys in Pittsburgh, and his actively involved with the American Association for Justice, Pennsylvania Association for Justice, and Western Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.
Claire Horner, JD, MA, HEC-C is Associate Professor in the Center for Medical Ethics & Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, and directs the Clinical Ethics Program at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center. She earned her JD and MA in Bioethics from the University of Pittsburgh, and completed her clinical ethics fellowship at Albany Medical College. She is a leader in UME ethics education at BCM, and is passionate about her work in the areas of reproductive ethics, law, clinical ethics consultation, and Catholic bioethics.
